Week Eight
The first question I ask of every interview is, “What is your definition of the word ‘politics’?”
It’s fascinating to see the range of approaches and answers to the question. Some have gone straight to Google, but many respond based on their own experiences and dive into the many nuances of the word.
Word definition is so important to me and it is why it is part of the opening of this book.
We hear the word ‘politics’ all the time but do we all agree on what it actually means? I have Googled the word several times to see what Wikipedia and Webster’s Dictionary define it. I have also looked at the images that automatically come up when searching for it. I have also gotten a definition from ChatGPT.
I’m most excited that I’ve got words on a page and an outline for where I’m going. I’m continuing to interview but I feel like I’m about to hit saturation (except for students!!).
Background research is important but I’m a fan of a Rabbit Hole so trying not to get sucked into all but understanding an event from all sides, is critical for me to be able to put into a book. If I can’t give you multiple views of a topic, I just don’t think I should be writing about it.
Week eight complete.
