Introduction
After publishing Leading Within, I got SO many questions about my experiences writing, publishing, and marketing my book that I thought I should start charging money!
Instead, I decided to create a public running record of my experience so that folks could follow along. First and foremost, this is accountability for me. I need to be able to track my progress EVERY Friday.
If this comes in handy to the reader as a new or on-going writer, that’s great too.
I don’t believe my process is the only way nor the right way just the MRB way!
This is written in full stream of consciousness with no prior thought or editing so here we go!
Week One
First week dedicating a full day to writing or kind of.
I’ve been in my head for a while about this one so I’m excited to actually move from thinking to doing.
I created a chart. Not on Excel. On Word (of course). The chart is a roadmap of when I will be writing each chapter and what will be in each chapter. With a May 2025 deadline, I’m already feeling behind but here we are!
After creating my chart, I spent the next few hours reading, researching, and then generating the criteria for the folks I want to interview for the book. Generating questions for interviews is not - although, I have a lot of thoughts about the questions they are just not written on paper.
I will call week one a success!
Moving forward, I will dedicate some time every day to this book. It’s the only way for me and my process.
Mary,
I love that you are chronicling your process. I had a process that worked for the academic work, but have found the process for creative writing to be quite messy. But I am so curious to follow your journey! Good luck with it!
MRB way is now I finished my thesis! 😅
