Week Twelve
I’ve granted myself permission to write out of order!
Even with a framework for each chapter, it has been a struggle to find a writing rhythm so I’m skipping around.
The last chapter has kept me occupied. Its focus is ‘navigating the full system as a collective’ and the guiding question for that chapter is, “How can you provide opportunities for individuals and groups to collaborate for the best interest of the school community?” I know it sounds a little vague but after reading and attending some workshops recently, I have a lot of thoughts and scribbles about saving our democracy.
I’ve also started building some tools. Every chapter will include a tool designed for the focus of the chapter- so teachers, principals, students, etc. will each have a specific tool designed to support them in building their political acumen. I love creating tools so it is a nice distraction for not getting my first chapters to a place of satisfaction.
A big thing that has come-up in my research has been about communication and communication strategies. As a Black woman who has been tone-policed, I feel a type of way about telling someone to manage their “tone” as part of their communication strategy but I’m noodling on this term, “savvy political concessions.”
Week twelve is a wrap.
I can never write in order!
I found giving myself the freedom to skip around helped too. 😊
